Home > Social Concerns Social ConcernsFaith continues to support Arlington and the broader community through service and financial assistance. Here is an overview of the Social ministries at Faith: A-SPAN. Arlington Street People's Assistance Network is strongly supported by Faith's service and generous giving via the Emergency Winter Shelter. This shelter provides a safe location where the homeless can be out of the winter weather, find a bed to sleep on, and have a meal to eat. Faith historically volunteers its time on the 3rd Tuesday of every month between November and March. For the winter season of 2009-2010, Faith will be serving a meal once a month starting in January. In addition, Faith provides bagged meals to approximately 60 homeless clients of A-SPAN each month as part of the Homeless Bagged Meal Program. The number of lunches served fluctuates year by year but has decreased in comparison to last year irrespective of the financial crisis. In addition to meals, Faith provides personal care items, socks, donated sweatshirts/sweaters. Fannie Mae Homeless Walk-a-Thon. The pre-school participated in a walk for the homeless November 7th and Faith contributed financially to the event. The donation ultimately supports A-SPAN's needs. Doorways. Faith continues to support Doorways for Women and Families throughout the year. Angel Tree Program. The 2009 Angel Tree Program supported several local charities including A-SPAN, Doorways, and Offender Aid Restoration. Save the Children. In memory of Brian Rowe, Faith Lutheran's former music director, Faith gave a donation to this organization whose mission is to support the basic needs of children around the world be it food, emergency assistance, or education. Faith remembers Brian's giving spirit, his service to our church and community, and his talents. Good News Prison Ministry. The Good News Prison Ministry continues to need Faith's support. In 2009, Faith sponsored a table as part of a fund-raising event. We also have several volunteers who work with inmates on a regular basis. If you would like to learn more about the Good News Prison Ministry, contact Jim Frankosky or Lizabeth Schuch. AFAC. Faith continues to provide canned goods and non-perishable foods to Arlington Food Assistance Center. Thanks in part to the food drive in February and continued donations throughout the year we donated over 700 pounds of food. Thank you for your support. Robert Wilson |
