Faith Lutheran Preschool

Faith Lutheran Preschool provides a warm, caring Christian environment in which children can grow and develop. Our small half-day preschool for 3, 4, and 5 year olds includes developmentally appropriate individual activities and group experiences which foster a sense of competence and positive self-esteem. Because play is a child's natural mode of learning, FLP's curriculum offers hands-on, active participation that stimulates creative exploration in many areas.  Our bright, spacious facility provides ample room for all aspects of the preschool program. As "June is bustin' out all over…", another crop of 34 Faith Lutheran Preschool seedlings is off to area kindergartens! Not to worry, however, as another 24 new and alumni families have already (re)joined our ranks! All were hailed or “farewelled” at our very well-attended Annual Potluck Picnic held last month.

This traditional end-of-year celebration was also the setting to announce the departure of Preschool Director, Carol McDevitt. Carol, who assumed directorship of the preschool upon Mary Hibbits’ retirement in 2001, is leaving to pursue full-time employment now that her daughters (both FLP alumnae) are leaving the nest. Preschool Board Chairman and Board members recognized Carol’s dedicated service with gifts and flowers and introduced new Director, Tracy Cowden. It is entirely fitting that Tracy now take the reins, as she taught Carol’s older daughter here at Faith in 1992 under Mary’s tutelage. We are indeed a family! Since that time, Tracy has continued to teach at area preschools off and on while raising her own four children. We are now delighted to welcome her back into the Faith community, hopefully for many years to come!

Next year the Preschool will maintain an enrollment of 63 children in four classes.

Educators Carol Ann Felker, Anna Peterson, Anne Larsen, Martha Perry, Sue Nellor, Lisa McKenzie, Cynthia ErkenBrack, Trish Montgomery, Marianne Duffy, Penny Ott, and Mary Hynes will all continue on the staff. We reaffirm our commitment to the Reggio Emilia inspired philosophy of early childhood education characterized by a deep respect for children's potential. As such, we will continue to provide a rich, engaging, welcoming and beautiful environment supportive of emergent curricula and our students' self expression in "…a hundred languages".

The 2007-2008 school year has ended, although children’s squeals will still fill our halls and playground through June 20 when summer school ends. It's been another great year in the Faith Community! Thanks and blessings to all. Be safe.
